Gilden-Fire[]
"Gilden-Fire" was originally a chapter from The Illearth War that Stephen R. Donaldson edited out prior to publication. It describes the expedition of two Lords and their Bloodguard companions to Coercri, home of the Giants. Their mission was to investigate disturbing reports from the ancient friends. The expedition was hounded by fell creatures of all sorts, including ur-viles, kresh, and worse in the Grimmerdhore Forest.
Although full of information of interest to fans of the series, including some background on the Bloodguard and things that would become important later, Donaldson thought that it didn't serve to have an extended narrative take place without Covenant; it would undermine important elements of the story if things are going on outside of the Unbeliever's senses. For that reason, it was cut, but it was later published as its own chapbook, and the results of the expedition were reported by the Bloodguard Korik later in the novel.
